Yazd
City Overview
Yazd is the capital city of Yazd province in central Iran. Situated around 1,200 meters above sea level, it lies within a deserted area, but just 50 km away is the 4,075-meter Shirkooh Mountain, the source of Qanats (The underground tunnels that bring water from mountains to cities and villages). Yazd is 300 km southeast of Isfahan and 400 km northeast of Shiraz, with a population of about 500,000.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017, Yazd is rich in history and culture. Additionally, nearby cities like Meybod, Mehriz, Taft, Ardakan, Bafq, and Abarkooh also offer their own unique tourist attractions.
Imagine narrow winding streets lined with mudbrick houses, wind towers, and traditional bazaars. Yazd is an ancient city with beautiful mosques, Zoroastrian sights, and picturesque rooftop views. Would you like to add this city to your Iran travel plan?
